"The more that you read, the more things you will know.
The more that you learn, the more places you'll go."
-Dr. Seuss
All middle school students will be participating in the 40 Book Challenge again this year. The challenge asks students to strive toward reading 40 books of their own choosing during one school year while meeting specific genre requirements. By participating in the challenge, students strengthen their reading skills, explore diverse literature, and discover what types of books they really enjoy.
Typically language arts classes begin with time for independent reading, but this is not enough. In order for students to become better readers and to complete the challenge, they are expected to be consistently reading a minimum of 2 hours per week outside of class. Also, students are expected to constantly have a book going. This means that as soon as a student completes one book, he or she is expected to jump right into the next. With over 900 titles in our classroom library, there is certainly no shortage of books to choose from!
Students who complete the 40 Book Challenge will be honored on the Wall of Fame.
