The fifth graders have been studying tall tales since the middle of the first quarter. Now that second quarter is done, we finally have something to show for it! Each student wrote and illustrated their own story in the tradition of a tall tale. Check out their amazing work by clicking the links below, and be sure to ask your student all about what they learned!
I don't know what happened, but it has been two months since I updated the blog! I have no idea where the second quarter went; it just flew right by!
Seventh and eighth graders finished the Greek Mythology debates quite some time ago. We had an intense showdown for the final debate in front of the entire middle school. Hephaestus (Donovan) represented the seventh grade side of the bracket in the finals and Hermes (Kamrin) represented the eighth grade side of the bracket. After much deliberation the judges determined Hermes to be the Supreme Ruler of the Universe! So many wonderful things happened in the second quarter including sixth graders learning more about nonfiction texts (and even making their own!), fifth graders writing their own tall tales (check back soon for finished products!), seventh graders read The Outsiders together, and eighth graders read My Brother Sam is Dead in conjunction with their Revolutionary War unit in social studies. Check back soon for updates; I won't wait an entire quarter to update the blog next time! -Miss G |

I am a 2011 graduate of St. Michael's College where I studied English and Secondary Education. I love teaching, learning, soccer, and buying more books than I could ever possibly read. This is my sixth year teaching at OES. Archives
