For the last few weeks the fifth and sixth graders have been honing their skills at a new game: Bananagrams! Bananagrams is a word game that is a bit like Scrabble without a board. Every player draws tiles with letters on them and tries to create words and connect them crossword puzzle style. It has been great fun to see how much students are learning about spelling and language from this fabulous game! In addition to using Bananagrams to support vocabulary instruction, we are learning to play Bananagrams because we are part of the first ever middle school Banagrams tournament in the US! Open to fourth, fifth, and sixth graders in New England, our students will compete within the school, and our OES champion will move on to the next round with the chance to earn a spot in the ultimate championship in Providence, RI this spring! So far, we have nearly finished the first round of games and are beginning our quarterfinal matches. Good luck to all the remaining participants!
