It's hard to believe our first full month of school is over! In that time, 7th and 8th graders have finished NECAP prep. They have worked hard on outlining and writing LEAF paragraphs in which they use analysis to elaborate on their thoughts or prove their point. 5th and 6th graders have one more week of preparations as they continue to work on adding more detail to their writing. The improvements since week one have been astounding!
The NECAP testing will take place the second full week in October. All midle school students will have three sessions of the math test and three sessions of reading. The following week, fifth and eighth graders will complete the writing test in two sessions. The students have all been working very hard, and I am proud of their efforts! -Miss G

WIth two weeks behind us, the school year is in full swing. All language arts classes have been working on writing excellent paragraphs. So far we have covered how to write a strong opener that introduces the topic but doesn't give too much away, and we have moved into how to write great details. Seventh and eighth graders have already begun writing first and second drafts of paragraphs in response to NECAP prompts and fifth will begin this in the coming week.
Students are also working hard on the 40 Book Challenge. It is exciting to see students combing through our classroom library finding just the right book! Book #2 for the year is due Monday 9/9, which should be no problem for those students who have been completing their required 2 hours or reading per week outside of school. I hope sixth graders have a great time at Nature's Classroom in Maine this week! We will pick up where we left off when you come back. -Miss G |
